What is text messaging?
Text messaging is a way to communicate between mobile phones by sending and receiving plain text messages. Other terms for text messaging include SMS (which stands for Short Message Service), texting, mobile messaging, wireless messaging, short message, and short mail. To determine if you can send text messages, contact your wireless service provider or reference your mobile phone's manual. The text messaging service is typically found on your mobile phone menu under 'Messages.' After selecting 'Messaging,' if you have an option to 'Send' or 'Create' a message, this is typically how you would begin the process of sending a text message.

Is text messaging the same as email?
Technically, they are not the same. However, they are very similar, and many mobile devices can send and receive both. Text messages are limited, however, to 160 characters per message.

Who can I send an SMS or text messages to?
You can send an SMS or text message to another U.S. mobile phone user by addressing the message to their mobile phone number. Additionally, you can send messages to participate in polls, voting, games and a variety of other exciting mobile applications by addressing your SMS or text message to a short code. Look for short codes on product packaging and in TV and print advertising. To try a voting campaign, please text the word "vote" to 24246* to tell us what you think about our new website.

What kind of phone do I need to send SMS or text messages?
Nearly every new mobile phone allows you to send and receive SMS or text messages, and this information will be presented to you as part of the phone's capabilities when you make your purchase. For older phones, contact your wireless service provider if you are not sure, and they can either explain how to send and read messages or provide you with details on upgrading to a phone with these capabilities. Again Mobile currently supports SMS messaging from all mobile phones from AT&T Mobility, Verizon Wireless, T- Mobile, Alltel, US Cellular, Cellular One, Sprint, Nextel, Boost Mobile, etc.

How does SMS or text messaging work?
SMS or text messaging is a text-only message delivery system on mobile phone networks. As a complement to voice calls, text messages travel through the wireless service provider's network and are routed and delivered much like a voice call. The messaging server for SMS or text messaging routes all messages to the appropriate mobile phone or application based on the number in the destination address.

What is a short code?
A short code, also known as a common short code (CSC), is usually a 5 to 7 digit number to which an SMS or text message can be sent. Short codes are common across all wireless service providers in the U.S. The Common Short Code Administrator (CSCA) assigns CSCs to applicants allowing them to be used for the same application across multiple wireless service providers.

What are Again Mobile’s short codes?
Again Mobile currently owns the short code, 24246. It can be used for clients who do not have their own short codes and want to run marketing campaigns. Some of our clients decide to obtain their own short codes and work with Again Mobile to set up both short and long term campaigns.

Do common short codes work with all wireless service providers?
Not necessarily. All wireless service providers will have the option of supporting (i.e. carrying traffic to and from the content provider that leases the CSC) each common short code and its associated application. The decision of whether or not to support a common short code is at the sole discretion of each wireless service provider. However, Again Mobile works with its clients and the carriers to ensure maximum support.

How do you terminate or 'Opt Out' of a campaign?
A person can opt out or terminate a campaign by sending an SMS with keyword S, STOP, END, QUIT, CANCEL, or UNSUBSCRIBE to any of Again Mobile's short codes, or that of our clients. Once the person sends a stop message they will not receive any other text message from that short code unless they opt back in. For help at any time, text the word HELP.

Are there any hidden fees or premium charges?
Occasionally our clients would like to provide their customers with a Premium SMS (PSMS) service which will include additional messaging charges on their phone bills. For any of these programs the mobile customer is told the rate and provided an opportunity to opt-in to the program before the service starts. Moreover, any mobile customer can opt-out using any of the opt-out keywords such as Stop, Cancel, Quit, etc.

How do we get started with a Text Messaging Campaign?
Again Mobile can help companies determine the best approach to their short code brand/marketing campaign. This would include assessing goals, determining the type of campaign to be run, the short code to be used, setting up and tracking the campaign, etc. Just call (toll free) 1-866-508-0991, or email us and a Again Mobile representative will contact you.

What guidelines govern text campaigns?
Again Mobile strictly adheres to the policies and principles of the carriers and the Mobile Marketing Association. These Best Practices and Codes of Conduct are put in place to ensure that customer privacy standards are upheld and to protect the mobile channel from abuses by unethical marketers, and to limit consumer backlash and additional regulatory scrutiny.
